The Insanity of Writing

Yea, I admit it. I hear voices in my head. I daydream being on a great quest with a kinder, a dwarf and a great wizard to who knows where for who knows what. I attempt, whats the word, yea, improvisation of a fantasy situation. Asking my son or fiance what we will do if the ogres do invade our village. Sometimes it works, other times they look at me like I need another Citalipram.  I wake up at all hours of the night writing in an illegable writing in a notebook in the dark. I spend hours planning all of the details and mapping it all out for the next morning only to scrap it all with a new route in the story. I forget whether or not I had eaten because the characters in the story just had a major meal and I think I did too. I do without sleep to write until the loved ones remind me that 48 hours is a bit too much to sit at a keyboard in one stretch. I have woke up with keyboard face with the end of the last sentence being nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnmmmmmmmmm.........  The writer lives in his or

The Rose of York

Sandra Worth made a monumental accomplishment with yet another prize winning, historical novel. The Rose of York is a powerful story of unrequited love and romance . Lady Ann has found young love that could not be quelled by a father who wants her to marry into the status that he feels she deserves in life. Unfortunately, it isn't with her love, Richard of Gloucester. He isn't the status maker he has in mind and she is forced into an arranged marriage. When this ends in tragedy, faith has other ideas than to let our lovers finally find matrimony. The Rose of York is now free at amazon.com. This is a book that will keep you hoping for the lovers and the details are very compelling. You won't be disappointed. Good reading.

Lottie's Pick of the Week: Fifty Shades

Fifty Shades of Grey is a passionate piece of literature first released in 2011. The storyline has obvious parallels to the Twilight Saga with a uniqueness that sets it apart from other types of romances. Anastasia Steele is volunteered to interview the enigmatic and powerful Christian Grey for her campus magazine. Her roommate was supposed to interview him but was too ill. Ana finds Grey sexy and interesting to the point of bumbling through the interview. I had found that Fifty Shades of Grey, along with its sequels Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Free, is not much different than simple romances. However, the explicit sex scenes clearly place them in the genre of erotica. There are several displays of BDSM (dominance/submission, sadism/masochism) that tend to intrigue even the most conservative of women, thus spanning through the many age groups. The main fan-base, however is the women of the 30+ range. Fifty Shades has become viral. The writing is anything but extraordinary,

I Want to Know

Hi Readers, It has come to my attention that the best way to give you what you want on here is to ask you.... What do you want to see more of on here? What have you  enjoyed or disliked on here? And most of all, what ideas can you send my way? This blog is for you, afterall. Thanks and good reading, Lottie Hancock P.S. What are some of your favorite books?

The Elfstones of Shannara

Those of us who have read "The Sword of Shannara" by Terry Brooks know what I mean when I say this about "The Elfstones of Shannara," its sequal. Flick Ohmsford hasn't changed a bit 50 years after he and his brother, Shea, returned to Shadyvale. His stoic attitude and drive for normalcy after such heroic adventures of his youth seems to be his only concern other than his grand-nephew. What is to be noticed is that the courage and strength of character displayed by the heroes is combined in Shae's grandson, Wil Ohmsford. Swept up in another dangerous mission that could change life in the four lands, Wil has to learn things about himself that frightens even him. Accompanied by an elven girl, a chosen, they find that what cannot be seen is more deadly than anything that the eyes can see. Can mankind escape from the brink of devistation? This was definitely a book I couldn't put down and a classic that can never collect dust. I recommend this book highly alo

Lottie's Pick of the Week

This week on the Block is a spellbinding novel by Suzanne Collins, Mockingjay. This is the third in Collins's Hunger Games series and should not be overlooked. Our hero, Katniss Everdeen, has survived yet another Hunger Games and the Capital wants revenge, both from her making them loose face to their public but also for casting doubts on the validity of the games. Can we say "Revolution?" Threats against her family and district are just the beginning and Katniss is not a happy citizen although a reluctant face of rebellion. Personally, the novel made me feel the emotions of the characters, hate for President Snow, the anger of injustice from District 13, and the heart wrenching pain of Katniss at the unnecessary loss of life. Very powerful and well written. The book will entice you even more than Hunger Games and Catching Fire with the passion and determination of its youth.  Good reading.

Kirkus MacGowan

I want to give a BIG shout out about a fellow author whose books have had me from page one. Good reading!

Shannan Drake

Recently I was given a novel by Shannan Drake (aka Heather Graham) named "When Darkness Falls."  My daughter gave me the book and I knew she had a passion for romances and, being a romance author herself, loves it when it has a twist. I normally do not read romances but I do love suspense romances and this definitely qualifies. I was so hoping when I started to read that this wasn't going to be another "fluffy" vampire. Don't get me wrong, it has its place for sure. I just was in the mood for some danger. Well, I got it. "When Darkness Falls" is the second novel in the Vampire Series. The heroin of the story is an architectural anthropologist named Jade MacGregor. Our hero, a vamp named Lucian DeVeau who demands (yes, I said it) that he protect her from unseen evils that she doesn't even believe in. The details that Ms. Drake has put in her adventures is outstanding. New Orleans, Scotland, battles and slaughters, all are in vivid details that c

Introducing Myself

I am an avid reader and a collector of books. I have been just lucky enough to have met some wonderful authors who have inspired me to look beyond my comfort zone. This has let me experience types of works I normally would not have tried. I will be giving reviews as I can on the various authors and books along with an occasional short piece from who knows who in the field. If I hear of a new book in the works, coming to stores or on sale, there will be that too. Please don't think I will be using this to bash authors or take advantage of their good spirits. I haven't read too many books I didn't like and for those, I just put down. Life is too short to read that way. Drop me a line when you read a good one, too. The readers want to know!
